1. Who we are
Verbatim is a New Zealand education-technology venture founded by Alec Hanna. By using this website or any Verbatim service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the service. Questions: alechanna12@gmail.com.
2. What Verbatim is, and is not
Verbatim is a screening indicator. It surfaces patterns in a student's writing that may be worth a closer look. It is not a diagnostic tool, not a medical device, and not a substitute for professional assessment or judgment. It supports the decisions of qualified staff; it never makes them.
Verbatim's outputs are indicators, not conclusions. They should always be weighed alongside professional judgment and other evidence, and never used as the sole basis for a decision about a student.
3. Acceptable use
- Use Verbatim only for its intended purpose, supporting learning-support staff in a school, and in line with your own school's policies and the law.
- Do not attempt to misuse, reverse-engineer, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to the service.
- Only provide data that you are permitted to provide, with the consents that your school and the law require.
4. Privacy and data
How we handle data is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. Handling children's data carries real responsibility, and any pilot will be governed by a specific data agreement with the school.
5. Intellectual property
Verbatim, its software, branding, and content are ours or our licensors'. You may use the website and any service we provide for their intended purpose, but you do not gain ownership of anything by doing so.
6. No warranties
The website and any preview or pilot are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. In particular, we do not warrant that the tool is accurate, error-free, or fit for identifying any specific condition. Nothing here limits rights you have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act that cannot lawfully be excluded.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions made in reliance on Verbatim's outputs. Verbatim informs professional judgment; the responsibility for decisions about a student stays with the qualified people making them.
8. Changes
We will update these terms as Verbatim develops, and the date at the top shows when they last changed. For any pilot, the specific agreement with that school takes precedence over these general terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
